Adaptation to climate change in Italian agricultural systems
Question: How can more effective science-policy interfaces towards concerted actions be built for the implementation of agri-environmental schemes in EU agriculture?
Ecological components: The implementation of water policies such as the Nitrates Directive in Sardinia and the agri-environmental schemes in the Marche Region are held back by conflicts over the understanding of water quality and pollution.
Institutions: Integration of local knowledge of stakeholders with scientific knowledge generated by researchers for enhancing understanding agri-environmental complex issues.
Practice and facilitation: Alternative pathways to deconstruct scientific knowledge in nitrate vulnerable zones have been tested in ongoing research, including methods of conflict resolution on water quality negotiation.
